What to consider when designing your tiny house
At Ironbark Cabins, our tiny homes are designed to be customised. While you can purchase one of our signature cabins, we also offer a design service that allows you to customise your new tiny home to suit your use.
Here are some of the most important things to consider when designing your tiny home.
The purpose
Your ideal design will often depend on how you plan to use your tiny home. Will it be accommodation for guests or holidaymakers? Will it be used as a granny flat for the in-laws or a teenage retreat? Maybe you plan on living in your tiny home full-time?
The number of bedrooms, bathrooms and size of the living areas should all be determined in the early stages of designing a tiny house. And just because it’s smaller in size, doesn’t mean everything has to be instantly smaller. You would be surprised at how spacious they can be!
The placement
Like above, where you will put your tiny home will also depend on how you’re going to use it. You may not need it to be designed as a fully functioning home if it is going in your backyard, or you might need it to be larger than normal if it is going on an empty plot of land.
The great thing about our tiny houses is that they are also built to suit flat or sloping land, with extendable legs up to 1.8 meters.
Your local council regulations
Just as if you were building an average-sized home, your council might have certain regulations which will impact the design of your home. This could include window placements, proximity to boundary fences and other design features that might impact your neighbours.
Ironbark Cabins tiny homes are built by a registered builder & comply with Australian Building Code which means we’re also very experienced in ensuring you have all the necessary building permits you need to put a tiny home on your land.
Your style
One of the best parts of designing a tiny home is focusing on the smaller design details like how to incorporate storage and what materials you want to use. Working with Lisa from Ironbark Cabins, you’ll be able to map out exactly how you want the interior style of your tiny home to look. Do you want a Hamptons feel with white and blue finishes? Or maybe you want an ultra-luxe look with dark timbers and marble benchtops? The style opportunities are endless with a customisable cabin from Ironbark Cabins.
