How to style a tiny home

Like with any space, styling can make all the difference to the feel of your relocatable tiny home. But just because it’s small, doesn’t mean that you can’t make bold styling choices. Here’s what Lisa Nisbet, who manages Style & Marketing at Ironbark Cabins, recommends when styling your tiny home.

What are the most important things to remember when styling a small space?

Less is more! Try to add a few special pieces without over cluttering. Keep your bench spaces reasonably clear & if possible keep small appliances tucked away in drawers or cupboards. Light, neutral coloured furniture helps keep your rooms feeling spacious & open.

How do you choose a style theme?

We try take into account the style of our main customer base. In the case of our cabins at this point in time, a lot of our clients are looking to use our relocatable cabins in natural Australian surroundings, so we try to stick with earthy tones.

Each cabin has a statement piece and for us in the case of one of our cabins, "The Outlook", it was brass tap ware. So, we started with that and created a colour palette around that feature.

What are your go-to decor items for a relocatable home?

Indoor plants! We love to bring the outdoors in & also the added bonus of a lot of indoor plants acting as air purifiers. Mabel in Monbulk are our go to for healthy indoor plants. They also have a great choice of stylish homewares which is a double bonus. We also love Bambury for linen, towels & cushions. They have a huge range to choose from that changes through the seasons and we can always find something that we love, to work in with our secondary dwellings.

Who do you look to when you need styling inspiration?

Brooke from Marlowe Interiors is our go-to girl. She has put together some gorgeous color palettes for us. She understands our needs & we love how unique her style is. We lean on her a lot and now have her on speed dial haha.

What happens if you’re not confident styling your new tiny home?

We can provide as much input to the styling of your new home as you wish. I often ask clients to give me a brief of what is most important to them in their home, any 'must haves/ have nots' and we can usually work out something together.  Pinterest is also a great starting tool to work out what you do & don't like. Don't be afraid to ask friends and family for their input & ideas!

Do you have advice you can give to someone wanting to try and style on their own?

Go for it! Trust your gut! Going with your own unique style will make your cabin feel like home. Take screen shots of items that you like and put them together on a photo layer app so you can see what works together. We're not experts at this either, but we give it a go!
